A New Year & Catching Up

January 6, 2017

So much has happened since I last wrote! That three-kid life has been quite an adjustment that I am not even close to mastering, but I am taking each day to figure out how to make different things work a little more smoothly. I’ll save that for another post, but catch up on a few fun things we’ve been up to as well as a few goals I have this 2017!

In true fashion of kicking off Christmastime, we took the girls to Disneyland! As crazy as it might seem, I think this was my favorite trip yet (yep, even with a newborn baby!) We stayed at our tried-and-true favorite hotel, started our morning with iced caramel macchiatos and Panera, and would walk to the park. We took the days in stride and didn’t put a lot of pressure on getting things done. We honestly just enjoy getting to be there together, snacking on yummy treats and being around some of our favorite people. I’d take Reese to the baby center every few hours to nurse, then we would go back for naps to recharge for the rest of the night. Hadley got to go on some exciting rides now that she is 40 inches (Radiatior Springs Racers, Thunder Mountain Railroad, & Splash Mountain,) and Sadie just loved everything about being at Disneyland…except the fluffy costumed characters (Minnie and Pooh excluded, haha!) I got to see some dear family on our last day, and seeing my girls play with their cousin was a perfect ending to our trip!

We came back home, got in the Christmas spirit, and started a new tradition: driving up to the mountains and cutting down our own tree at a cute little Christmas tree farm. I have always wanted a silver tip tree, and Aaron ended up finding the perfect one! An added bonus, it’s wayyyy cheaper cutting your own down versus buying one at the lots! The girls got hot chocolate and candy canes, threw a few snowballs, and all was right in the world. 🙂

Don’t you dare think I neglected my little December baby by not having a little celebration! Since her birthday will always fall in the midst of the Christmas prepping craziness, we went for a low-key little family (and a few of her little friends) birthday brunch. A bagel and cream cheese bar, some sweet & savory turkey and cheese sliders, fresh berries, quiches, muffin-breads, and cake pops were on the menu, and people got to graze and visit, and our beloved middle child got to be celebrated. We took her to Cheesecake Factory on her actual birthday (a tradition of ours) and the highlight was seeing the struggle of her trying to blow out her cake with her little gap teeth! 😆

Christmas was busy, fun, messy, and full of great memories. We felt like things went so fast…too fast, so we ended up being one of those people that have kept their tree and lights up to enjoy for just a little longer.

Clearly Sadie was not interested in meeting Santa, but Hadley’s enthusiasm made up for it!

I’m not one to ever make official resolutions, but I love the idea of having a few goals.
-Taking time to be intentionally active. Sure, going up and down the stairs and constantly chasing kids around has kept me moving, but it’s not the same as a nice run outside in the fresh air. I have no desire to do another half marathon, but consistently doing 3-4 mile runs will definitely make me feel better.
-More trips with Aaron and the girls, even little ones that are just to some nearby destination we haven’t been to.
-Getting better with my Nikon and taking more pictures of people that I love…my favorite treasures of all.
-Less screen time. I’m imfamous for losing my phone and not answering calls, but once I find it, I will admit I end up glued for a while. I always feel gross after being on my phone, so taking a little bit of time a day to catch up on social media and the putting it down and being done.
-Going to bed earlier. I’m absolutely guilty of staying up too late once the girls go to bed. It feels like some hard-earned quiet time at night, but then I always end up hating myself in the morning, ha!
-Playing with the girls more. A benefit to them being so close in age is they have so much fun playing while I can do chores around the house. I’d love to spend less time tidying up and more time getting to actually play with them.
-For Reese to sleep through the night, haha! But seriously, if we continue going at this rate (her waking me up at least 3-5 times a night,) I will look 80 by the time 2018 hits due to the toll that sleep deprivation has taken on me.
-Read more books! Self explanatory, but if you have any recommendations of a book you just love, please let me know!

2017, we’ve got this!

I hope you have an amazing weekend, and thanks for reading!

YES please!! I have a feeling we would have very similar literary tastes! Have you read the Mother’s Hope/Daugter’s Dream series by Francine Rivers!?
